Arizona!
POSTED BY MEGHAN ON 10.07.07 11:19 AM

Young Professional events are my favorite, but a Young Professional event in my hometown is even better. Last night took place at one of my all time favorite hotels “The Valley Ho” in Phoenix. The Valley Ho is a retro-tastic hotel that is designed in a sleek 60's décor and makes you feel like an unofficial member of the ratpack (Frank Sinatra used to frequent the spot with Ava Gardner). The event took place on the rooftop of the hotel with the desert skyline serving as a backdrop to the party. It was one of the first official announcements we have made about the blog and there really is no better place to officially kickoff this blogging adventure than surrounded by friends and family. My Dad's speech was peppered with an abundance of standup comedy. He was having way too much fun cracking jokes at my expense, showing off his “$150,000 screensaver” on his cellphone which has a picture of us at my Columbia graduation on it! My 16 year old sister Bridget was also there (check out our serious picture together) and we spent most of the night dancing together to our favorite Madonna tunes that were being spun by a DJ. All in all, it was one of the most fun events I have been to and I suggest anyone visiting Phoenix to check out The Valley Ho!

We are on our way to D.C. and then on to Michigan for the debate. Check back for our exclusive debate notes!

Impressions at the Young Professionals Event
POSTED BY LA-TORIA ON 10.07.07 11:08 AM

Young Professionals (YP) Event in Phoenix - The warm glow of the sun that recently retired behind Camelback Mountain illuminated this capsule in time. Valley Ho once gave shelter to the likes of Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner. Elizabeth Taylor even entered into holy (or not so holy) matrimony at this spot. Young Professionals sipping on cobalt blue “McCain Margaritas” received a message from Senator John McCain that was light on foreign policy and heavy on the environment. WHAT?! Concern about greenhouse gas emissions from a Rebublican? What better crowd to receive this message? The YP's are the entrepreneurs, the innovators, the future of our country. This makes me wonder what other surprises are yet to come.

Just three weeks ago, Meghan and I introduced her father at a YP event in Arlington, Virginia and we were struck by how different the feel of these events are -- even aesthetically. Both events were devoid of the usual mahogany associated with a political soiree. Sleek, clean lines featuring bold colors – retro-orange w/chrome furniture.

As our (event) interiors evolve, so do our perspectives.

Young Professionals Event in Phoenix
POSTED BY HEATHER ON 10.06.07 12:42 PM

There we all stood in massive winds (ok I m exaggerating) and an awe inspiring view absolutely captivated by the sheer brilliance of John’s comedic delivery. That man amazes me with his quick wit and ability to wrangle in a crowd. It was packed last night with a variety of people both young and old(er) wanting to get in on the action. Drinks were flowing and the DJ had a few die-hard enthusiasts trying to campaign for participants (they needed to take lessons from John). While the dancers were on one end, the mob scene was on the other, following John and clamoring for photo ops. I was just soaking it all in and thinking about all of the fun ahead.

Welcome to our blog!
POSTED BY MEGHAN ON 10.01.07 6:46 PM

Let us begin by conveying how delighted we are to be up-close observers of the 2008 presidential race. As three young professional women, we hope that our blog contains a fresh perspective on what is sometimes perceived as a stale and boring process. The "blogettes" are Meghan McCain, daughter of presidential candidate John McCain; La-Toria Haven, political fashionista; and Heather Brand, professional photographer. We are friends bound by a passion for politics, pop culture, fashion and our adventurous spirits.

As much as we can, we will travel on the road with Senator McCain's presidential campaign and blog about our experiences along the way. In addition to the race itself, this includes all the behind the scenes action: notoriously cramped quarters, stale donuts and the fabulous shoes!

Why should we be the only ones with access to this excitement? Why should we have all the fun? Our intent is to provide you with a perspective not found in other campaign blogs. And offer a multi-media window into a process few people normally see. We'd like to invite you to share our experiences with us - the good and the bad - as we explore the 2008 presidential campaign and set off on new adventures!

Love,

The Blogettes

P.S. The trail begins Friday... see you then!
