"Winning New Hampshire"
POSTED BY MEGHAN ON 01.09.08 10:56 AM

I cannot possibly sum up the last few days into words that would do this experience justice. The entire primary is such a blur and now I just seem to be processing it all. It's incredible to have lightning strike twice 8 years later and have the people of New Hampshire once again choose Dad as their choice to be the Republican Presidential Nominee.

The time that I spent in New Hampshire has been some of the best memories and experiences of my life and ones that I will always treasure. Thank you, thank you, thank you to the people of New Hampshire for blessing me with such an incredible experience and letting me get to know your beautiful people and breathtaking state.

The last few days have truly been a whirlwind, but I'm going to try and sum up some highlights for you (and of course pics will accompany and a video will soon follow):

  1. Meeting Chelsea Clinton
I met her at the ABC debates backstage in between the Republican and Democrat forums. She was absolutely lovely and charming and complimentary of the blog. She has been someone I have looked up to for a long time and finally meeting her and being so impressed with her in person was amazing (she also had really cute shoes on).

  2. 7 Stops Before the Primary
The day before the primary we did a bus tour around the state that started at 7 in the morning and ended almost at 10 at night. We went from rally to rally, building momentum as the day went on. The energy was electric; people screaming, holding signs, hugging, yelling, crying... unbelievable. It was as if the people at the rallies were watching their hopes and dreams for the future manifest themselves in their candidate. By the end of the day, I could barely move and proceeded to fall asleep at the hotel in my clothes and makeup (which I haven't done since I was a freshmen at Columbia). It was truly a spectacular day.

  3. Mexican Food the Day of the Primary
8 years ago, I ate Mexican food in Concord the day of the primary and revisited that same Mexican food restaurant again this year (I am very superstitious). I went with Heather, Shannon, and a bunch of other close friends and staffers from the campaign. We traded war stories over guacamole about experiences on the campaign and then randomly met some McCain supporters outside. It was a nice way to chill and take a break before finding out the results of the primary.

  4. Finding out we won!!!
I found out in my Dad's hotel room at around 8:15PM and immediately teared up and started hugging and kissing everyone around me. To come from a place just 6 months ago where people declared this campaign over, to winning the New Hampshire primary has been nothing short of spectacular. I never stopped believing in my Dad, this campaign, or our team of people there. Obviously, neither did the people of New Hampshire. After we found out Dad won, we took a back elevator entrance to our hotel's kitchen which filtered onto the stage of the area where Dad was speaking. People were screaming "Mac is Back" so loud I couldn't hear the directions to get on the stage but winged it anyway. I watched my mother and father stand together on stage as Dad made his remarks and looked out into the crowd of faces looking absolutely elated that Dad had won. As soon as he was done, confetti cannons went off and Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Good" blared on the loudspeakers, which felt extremely familiar (they played it after his victory speech in 2000.) It was an amazing night!

"Thank you New Hampshire!"
POSTED BY MEGHAN ON 01.08.08 10:05 PM

Tonight has been absolutely unforgettable. We will have a more in depth post about this crazy, wild night tomorrow, but we just wanted to quickly express our gratitude to "The Granite State" that will always have a special place in my family's heart.

Mom and I did an interview on "Fox & Friends" yesterday

"Fox & Friends" put us on 20 minutes early and I literally had to run to the chair

Our interview was on all of the TV monitors in the remote studio set up in St. Anselms College

We dropped by the campaign headquarters in Manchester (chatting with Sarah Crawford)

"Special Double
New Year's Entry"

POSTED BY MEGHAN ON 01.01.08 11:05 PM

Because we didn't post last night (the girls and I spent the evening in Concord at "The Common Man" restaurant where I had the best veggie burger of my life), tonight we have a special double entry on the past two days on the trail.

We went to five "house parties" yesterday, and a few more today combined with "meet-and-greets" and townhalls. It's been a busy couple of days and today there was a blizzard!

Also, check out Glamour magazine's political blog "Glamocracy" where Dad wrote a blog entry entitled "What Meghan has taught me."

It's a really cool blog about political issues pertaining to women (a blog after my own heart.) Thanks to Glamour for giving my Dad a platform to directly talk to women about political issues.

Tomorrow Senator Lieberman is back and we have another full day in New Hampshire!

Great turnout

The house party was so crowded there was no room for us inside (sad!) so we made this snowman outside instead

And I started a snowball fight...

It got pretty intense

And then we broke the snowman

Stopping by Joe's Meat Shop

Another great house party
