"All Aboard In South Carolina"
POSTED BY MEGHAN ON 01.16.08 10:02 PM

So, the girls and I are back in action in South Carolina. We spent the day on planes, cars, and buses going to townhalls around the state. It's colder than I expected but the big crowds don't seem to mind. The energy and vibe of the South is totally unique. I love the personality of Southerners and want to thank everyone for being so warm and friendly. I also indulged in a little too much in sweet tea today (I think I drank about a gallon). I swear it tastes better in the South!

Keep checking in for new updates on the campaign. We'll try to keep everyone up to date.

"'Almost Famous' Moments"
POSTED BY MEGHAN ON 01.13.08 9:22 AM

Since Dad's big win in New Hampshire, things have really been heating up. The girls, staff, and I often joked early on that the campaign felt like a rock band that was on tour, hoping to have their recent album go platinum. At times we have felt like characters in one of my favorite movies, "Almost Famous".

But never has our "big moment" felt more real then the day after the New Hampshire win when we boarded this giant plane with about 50 more press traveling with us then usual. Even so, all of us are extremely aware that although these changes are new and exciting, they can be gone just as quickly as they came. While we're all enjoying the ride, we're a little nostalgic for the time when it was just a motley crew traveling with the campaign.

Below are some shots of the new plane we're traveling on and some shots from the recent South Carolina debate.

Getting off the plane

We're traveling with a lot more press and staff. It's bittersweet because it means the campaign is going well but that our run-down van experience has ended.

Look at "Mount Myrtle" outside the SC debate where the heads of the Republican candidates were carved out of sand, a la Mount Rushmore.

I always take this process very seriously

People are curious about the rubber band on Dad's wrist. It's sort of like his stressball that he wears all the time. (He's worn something like that during campaigns since I can remember.)

"Hello Everyone!"
POSTED BY MEGHAN ON 01.12.08 10:31 PM

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their wonderful comments they have sent into the site. Receiving positive feedback makes my day, so thanks to everyone who took the time to write.

Secondly, we are entering the second phase of the campaign with two very important primaries in Michigan (1/15) and South Carolina (1/19). I'm home for the weekend and will be back on the trail on Monday. To lighten things up for the weekend, I'm going to share some of my makeup tips to all of the girls who sent in questions and approached me at townhall meetings. Since I was very young and being the "girly" girl that I am, I have experimented with makeup. When I was in high school, a really good family friend of mine, who also happens to be a makeup artist, taught me some essential tricks. Everything else I learned, I picked up at various jobs in NYC and by scavaging the displays at Sephora. Here's the scoop:

Meghan's Makeup Tips

Concealer and Powder:

I start my application by using Bobbi Brown's under eye concealer (it's a life saver after long days and nights on the campaign trail).  I use the creamy concealer first, followed by MAC's Sheer Finish Powder.  It is packaged in one container and is easy to use with the Bobbi Brown concealer brush.  In my opinion, it is the best coverage for under eye bags and dark circles.  I also use MAC's Studio Finish concealer over blemishes.

Next, I use MAC Studio Fix Powder using a MAC powder brush (liquid foundation doesn't have the staying power of powder).  For lighter coverage I use Sonia Kashuk's "Bare Minimum Pressed Powder".  It's sold at Target and rivals the brands found at department stores.

Eyeliner and Shadow

I consistently use soft eyeliners from Clinique because they are the easiest to put on and smudge. My favorite eyeliner colors are "Deep Brown" and "New Black". I also use Cover Girl's Perfect Point Plus eyeliner in "Espresso" and Rimmel's Special Eyes eyeliner pencil in "Panama". I always use a white eyeliner on the inner part of my lower lid to make my eyes look brighter (it's a trick I picked up from a friend of mine who's a model who used this trick for early a.m. photo shoots).

My favorite shadows are from MAC and Stilla. I have a pallet from Stilla that I carry with me everywhere using these four colors (which can get you through any event): "Grace", "Espresso", "Cloud", and "Kitten", ranging from deep brown to a lighter shimmer. The color "Kitten" I wear every day either alone or blended with other colors. It's my all-time favorite. I also love Bourjois eyeshadows. I have learned that they apply better if you wet them a bit because they have a tendency not to be as malleable without a little bit of moisture.

My favorite eyeshadow brushes are the Sephora brand, MAC, Bobbi Brown, and Nars. I use several blenders and shapers to mix the shadows.

Mascara and Eyelash Curler

The Shu Uemera eyelash curler lives up to its reputation. If you buy one thing on my list, please buy this eyelash curler. I promise it will change your entire look. I use Dior Diorshow mascara everyday and if I need more density to my lashes, I mix the Dior mascara with L'Oreal's Voluminous mascara.

Brows

I actually use an eyeshadow on my eyebrows but apply it with an eyebrow brush. I had a really hard time matching my eyebrows to the right pencil so I draw it with a brow brush using Bobbi Brown eye shadow. Brushing on eyebrows always looks more natural, because you can blend the shadow in with your natural brows.

Blush and Bronzer

My favorite bronzer is Nar's "Laguna". It makes you look like you had a full night's sleep. I wear it every day on the apples of my cheeks and then slightly blend it on my t-zone and neck. I use a MAC powder brush to blend it all. I also use Cargo's Beach Blush in "Sunset Beach" if I am trying to look a little more natural.

Lips

My favorite lip glosses are by MAC and Benefit. I wear Benefit's Her Glossiness VIP lip gloss every day in "Didn't Hear it from Me" and "Life On The A-List". They are also good to blend together. My trick to make the colors pop more and last longer is to put MAC concealer on my lips before the gloss.  My other favorite lipstick is MAC's "Snob". It's a really fun pink for a night out on the town.  Cargo also makes amazing biodegradable lipstick that I often wear.

I hope you find some of my quick tips and list of favorite products helpful. I also try to oversee my dad's makeup before debates and interviews and enjoy applying my little sister and girlfriends' makeup for fun. Have a great weekend!
