Hi everyone! I know it's been awhile since I've posted anything. Obviously, the weeks following the election have been an emotional rollercoaster. I am grateful for so many of you who have sent such encouraging messages to the site. My family and I have appreciated them all. We're heading out for a family trip over the holidays and I'll be posting some photos from our travels soon. In the meantime, here's my top 10 posts from the last year as we reflect on 2008.

Many of you have asked what the future of the blog is and yes, there is a future. I just needed a bit of time to disconnect before starting up again. I appreciate your understanding and patience. Some fun experiences are ahead.

Have a safe and wonderful holiday and Happy New Year to all!

An ending... and beginning.

This was the most beautiful experience of my life and I have absolutely no regrets.

Tuesday night was enormously emotional for us all and I could not be more proud of my father. The person you saw on that stage was the gracious, honest and tender human being whom I have had the privilege to call "dad" for 24 years. My girls, Shannon and Heather, were there filming and taking photographs; however, this is the first time in the history of the Blogette that I have decided to keep the documentation for myself and my family and not publish it on the site. I hope everyone understands that I don't feel as open to sharing such an emotional night as I once did. It is not that I don't believe our readers would be sensitive to the material, it is that I don't believe that some in the media would.

I want to thank all of you who have been with us on this ride. We've received thousands of emails in the last few days and your words of encouragement and thanks have meant the world to Shannon, Heather, my family, and me. I am always thrilled when we get frequent email from voters, both young and old, who have felt more connected to this moment in history and to my Dad as a result of this site. Thank you all for your support, prayers and encouragement. I hope that by showing you the perspective of a presidential campaign through the eyes of the candidate's daughter, it has made the process more accessible to readers of all ages. Hopefully, in the future, another crazy, independent child of a politician will also draw back the curtain on a journey that so few people get the chance to see up close, and not adhere to an image that is long overdue for change. This has truly been the most liberating experience of my life and I am grateful for every moment.

Nothing like this happens without the support of some amazing people. Frank, Melissa, Claire, Diane, Rob, Nancy and Josh have always been working behind the scenes and on the road to make this a success. I know it hasn't always been easy, but I thank them so much for their perseverance and patience. They have meant so much to me through this experience and I truly could not have done it without them.

Which brings me to Shannon and Heather. Quite simply, I would not have survived without you. You have been my friends through some of the highest, and lowest, points of my life. Through the good times and bad, you were always there for me and this would not have been possible without you. You are my best friends in the entire world and I will always love you both. You are two of the most incredible people I have ever known and have the honor of calling my best friends.

Finally, I want to thank the two people who made this all possible, my mom and dad. Not the business owner and the candidate, but the mother and father whose strength, generosity and selflessness have been such a source of inspiration to me and who are the core of who I am today. I am so incredibly thankful for their love and support. I am very much my father's daughter and share many personality traits with him, but it is my mother who has always taught me to retain grace and class and to maintain a sense of humor during turbulent times. She has showcased those traits to me more than ever in the past year and a half.

To everyone else, you know who you are.

And now this experience ends. So, where do I go from here? I ask my readers for time while I figure that out. Stay tuned and don't get rid of this bookmark just yet!

In the meantime, I am decompressing in Sedona, eating my Dad's grilled ribs with my brothers, and playing "Rock Band" with Bridget.

With much love and gratitude to all our badass readers!!!

xoxoxo,

Thank You

Dad's remarks from last night...

"Thank you for coming here on this beautiful Arizona evening. My friends, we have come to the end of a long journey. The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly."

"A little while ago, I had the honor of calling Senator Barack Obama to congratulate him. To congratulate him on being elected the next president of the country that we both love. In a contest as long and difficult as this campaign has been, his success alone commands my respect for his ability and perseverance. But that he managed to do so by inspiring the hopes of so many millions of Americans who had once wrongly believed that they had little at stake or little influence in the election of an American president is something I deeply admire and commend him for achieving. This is an historic election, and I recognize the special significance it has for African-Americans and for the special pride that must be theirs tonight."

"I've always believed that America offers opportunities to all who have the industry and will to seize it. Senator Obama believes that, too. But we both recognize that, though we have come a long way from the old injustices that once stained our nation's reputation and denied some Americans the full blessings of American citizenship, the memory of them still had the power to wound."

"A century ago, President Theodore Roosevelt's invitation of Booker T. Washington to dine at the White House was taken as an outrage in many quarters. America today is a world away from the cruel and frightful bigotry of that time. There is no better evidence of this than the election of an African-American to the presidency of the United States."

"Let there be no reason now for any American to fail to cherish their citizenship in this, the greatest nation on Earth. Senator Obama has achieved a great thing for himself and for his country. I applaud him for it, and offer him my sincere sympathy that his beloved grandmother did not live to see this day. Though our faith assures us she is at rest in the presence of her creator and so very proud of the good man she helped raise."

"Senator Obama and I have had and argued our differences, and he has prevailed. No doubt many of those differences remain. These are difficult times for our country. And I pledge to him tonight to do all in my power to help him lead us through the many challenges we face. I urge all Americans who supported me to join me in not just congratulating him, but offering our next president our good will and earnest effort to find ways to come together to find the necessary compromises to bridge our differences and help restore our prosperity, defend our security in a dangerous world, and leave our children and grandchildren a stronger, better country than we inherited."

"Whatever our differences, we are fellow Americans. And please believe me when I say no association has ever meant more to me than that. It's natural, tonight, to feel some disappointment. But tomorrow, we must move beyond it and work together to get our country moving again. We fought - we fought as hard as we could. And though we fell short, the failure is mine, not yours."

"I am so deeply grateful to all of you for the great honor of your support and for all you have done for me. I wish the outcome had been different, my friends. The road was a difficult one from the outset, but your support and friendship never wavered. I cannot adequately express how deeply indebted I am to you."

"I'm especially grateful to my wife, Cindy, my children, my dear mother and all my family, and to the many old and dear friends who have stood by my side through the many ups and downs of this long campaign. I have always been a fortunate man, and never more so for the love and encouragement you have given me. You know, campaigns are often harder on a candidate's family than on the candidate, and that's been true in this campaign. All I can offer in compensation is my love and gratitude and the promise of more peaceful years ahead."

"I am also, of course, very thankful to Governor Sarah Palin, one of the best campaigners I have ever seen, and an impressive new voice in our party for reform and the principles that have always been our greatest strength... her husband Todd and their five beautiful children... for their tireless dedication to our cause, and the courage and grace they showed in the rough and tumble of a presidential campaign. We can all look forward with great interest to her future service to Alaska, the Republican Party and our country."

"To all my campaign comrades, from Rick Davis and Steve Schmidt and Mark Salter, to every last volunteer who fought so hard and valiantly, month after month, in what at times seemed to be the most challenged campaign in modern times, thank you so much. A lost election will never mean more to me than the privilege of your faith and friendship."

"I don't know what more we could have done to try to win this election. I'll leave that to others to determine. Every candidate makes mistakes, and I'm sure I made my share of them. But I won't spend a moment of the future regretting what might have been."

"This campaign was and will remain the great honor of my life, and my heart is filled with nothing but gratitude for the experience and to the American people for giving me a fair hearing before deciding that Senator Obama and my old friend Senator Joe Biden should have the honor of leading us for the next four years."

"I would not be an American worthy of the name should I regret a fate that has allowed me the extraordinary privilege of serving this country for a half a century. Today, I was a candidate for the highest office in the country I love so much. And tonight, I remain her servant. That is blessing enough for anyone, and I thank the people of Arizona for it."

"Tonight, more than any night, I hold in my heart nothing but love for this country and for all its citizens, whether they supported me or Senator Obama - I wish Godspeed to the man who was my former opponent and will be my president. And I call on all Americans, as I have often in this campaign, to not despair of our present difficulties, but to believe, always, in the promise and greatness of America, because nothing is inevitable here."

"Americans never quit. We never surrender. We never hide from history. We make history. Thank you, and God bless you, and God bless America. Thank you all very much."

America is Worth Fighting For

I think it is so poignant, and essentially, it captures the reason why I have always loved, supported and believed in my father. It is why I believe he would be the best President for our country now, at a point where we face many challenges abroad and also at home, where so many of our fellow Americans are going through difficult times. The fact that our country is and always will be worth for fighting for is the essence of why I have been so inspired to participate in this campaign, and throughout this process I have been even more inspired by the people and the places I have encountered along the way, around our great country.

We are truly the luckiest people in the world, and I have been very fortunate to be a part of this experience on the campaign, and to be able to share it with so many of you. The next three days will fly by and no doubt be pretty crazy, so let me just say thanks right now for getting involved too. This is what was at the heart of what I hoped to achieve with my blog, and it has gone beyond my expectations. Stay tuned for more from the trail tomorrow!

Johnny Ramone's band changed the rules for rock music from 1974 through the late 90's. Their music ignited the punk-rock movement and their style was ground-breaking, as was their loud, fast-paced music. We might not have the "Guitar Hero" sensation of today were it not for The Ramones. Last year, I did a post on a particular song we selected of theirs that was featured on the site. So, you can imagine how thrilling it was to be able to spend time with a living legend in the history of rock music. Linda was so helpful and the volunteers were so excited to meet her. Thank you so much for coming out and getting involved, I know how much everyone appreciates it!

Musings on Politics from a Pop Culture Girl

When I started the Blogette last year, I wanted to show people what happens behind the scenes in a national campaign. I did this because I love my family and I knew that it might surprise people to see how normal this experience can be. I know this has been a difficult campaign for a lot of people. I know there are many who just want to get past the last eight years. And I know there are people who are so desperate for change they will do anything to get what they think is a better deal.

I make no excuses for the state of politics today. But I want everyone to know that my dad is more than ready to be the President this country needs right now. Everyone always assumed Iraq would be this campaign's number one hurdle. The only thing I respect more than people's opinions about how to proceed in Iraq are the men and women who are bravely serving our country in harm's way every single day. My Dad is the only candidate with real military experience who has the support of an overwhelming majority of current service members. And if you really want to know how much I trust him, remember that I have two brothers who are serving, one of whom is about to redeploy. Of course, all of this is easy to miss, because this election is clearly about moving past the current administration and fixing the economy.

If you honestly think someone with extremely limited experience will solve the severe problems we have in this country then, by all means, vote for Senator Obama. If you want to give complete control of our government to the Democrats who have made a real mess of things over the last two years they've controlled Congress, then go ahead and vote for Senator Obama. And, if you really believe that our taxes should be higher and that government should have a bigger role in our lives, vote for Senator Obama.

Some of you have asked me how I can support my Dad or call myself a Republican when times are so tough, especially since my own personal beliefs don't always sync with the GOP. Well, I have asked myself that same question a lot. But I support my Dad through it all because I know this: my Dad will be unlike ANY other Republican president. My father has the experience, leadership skills, and proven dedication to serve. I only wish people could understand that Dad will bring about the change everyone is so hungry for in a much more real way than Senator Obama could ever possibly hope to do at this stage in his political career.

So, forget everything you've heard or seen. Just know this: everyone wants change. And while some people can only talk about it, my dad will bring it. Don't give up on him. He is never going to give up on you. And by you, I mean every American. Regardless of age, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation or political ideology; a vote for John McCain is a vote to change our country for the better. Don't hope for a better future. Vote for one.

Through it all, it never ceases to amaze me how wonderful everyone has been. I can't thank you all enough for the work you're doing to get Dad elected. I know it sometimes seems like an uphill battle, but as anyone who has followed my dad knows, he always loves proving the experts wrong. The best surprise of the day was catching up with Mom at our hotel where she surprised me with this really cute jacket for my birthday. As we head into the final week, stay tuned. There will be some surprising things ahead!

Punk Rock Republicans

I am often asked what my favorite band of all time is, and for me it is an incredibly difficult decision - almost impossible. However, if I had to pick a band, it would probably be The Ramones. I have been a fan since around sixth grade when I first heard the song "I Want To Be Sedated" on the radio and was immediately hooked (I even had my first kiss while "Beat on the Brat" was playing in the background). The power, impact and influence of possibly the greatest band of all time and the inventors of punk rock is absolutely endless and infinitely spanning.

It is my great honor to announce that Linda Ramone, the wife of the late legend Johnny Ramone will be joining me to campaign for my father in Nevada on Monday and Tuesday. I couldn't be more excited and humbled if Elvis himself came out on the road with me. Looking forward to sharing with you what its like to campaign with a legend!

Mom has been campaigning on her own so met back up with Dad for some huge rallies in Ohio followed by some HQ visits in Florida. I am so grateful for the chance to be on the campaign with him. I think our energy really gets him pumped up for these rallies. Plus, he likes to joke around with us behind the scenes. Another first for me at the rallies in Ohio was introducing Dad to the huge crowd! I was as nervous as I think I've ever been, but Dad had the right advice and I think I did fine; at least the crowd seemed to think so. Everyone is excited about the election, but there's a lot of work yet to be done. When I see my father reach out to supporters, look them in the eye and see the expression on their faces, I know he will be the kind of President we need at this time in our history. If you hear about an upcoming campaign event in your area, be sure to come out in support of him. You won't be disappointed.

The debates really are surreal experiences. Enormous pressure, energy and preparation for a 90 minute performance. One of the really amazing things you'll notice about this view behind the scenes is how different the atmosphere can be. One moment on a crowded stage under the scrutiny of the nation, the next walking through darkly lit passageways to the fluorescent lights of the typical collegiate locker room.

I was a bundle of nerves and excitement immediately prior to and during the debate as the world watched on TV. I was so proud of him throughout the entire 90-minute program. The Ole Miss campus in Oxford was a beautiful location and the hosts were very gracious. Below is the first series of pictures from the debate. I'll post the second set tomorrow. From here we go to New York and then to California where I'll campaign for my dad - without my parents!

I make playlists for almost every interesting experience and I am working on my piece de resistance - the final election day playlist! Already got some good tunes that I will be playing throughout the entire day. I want to thank all my loyal readers and supporters. It's getting down to the wire with only a few weeks left until the election. I am a blessed girl living this life and a part of this election. Hang on tight 'cause it's crunch time!

It is an honor to be asked to go on those shows and amazing to be there as a guest. I have been to the "Tonight Show" a number of times over the years when my dad has been a guest, so it was a bit of an out of body experience to actually be there for an interview on my own.

I have to say that going on Carson Daly's show might have been the most fun because I have had a secret crush on him since I was a teenager. I also enjoyed meeting his musical guest, Anthony Green, while backstage, and recommend that everyone check out his CD on iTunes!

I was thankful to have had a full week of doing interviews under my belt before sitting down with Mr. King. Seeing such a highly produced piece of television this close gives you a greater appreciation for the hundreds of staff and technicians who make a production like this appear so effortless as we all watch from home. Saturday Night Live was one thing, but this happens every single day! The dedication of the staff on these shows is a wonder to see first hand. And the on screen talent couldn't appear more relaxed during the whole lead up to the show. Clearly, years in front of the camera really prepare you for the challenges live television presents. The View has a bit of a different approach since they're tape delayed, but I enjoyed meeting the ladies and crew just as much. It was especially helpful to have such a supportive audience during the interview. It was an enormous honor to meet the Today Show and View crews and I'm glad these were my first stops on the book tour.

Being interviewed on the Today Show and The View this morning were very humbling experiences.

As a regular viewer, I know how many people watch these shows and are curious about some of the answers given by the guests. Well, having experienced the "hot seat" for myself, I can tell you it can be a bewildering and overwhelming experience.

I want to clarify my comments about my family "understanding war unlike any other". My family understands the demands of war, in reference to our family's generations of service to the nation, including that of my grandfather, father and brothers. But obviously, there are many American families that have made, and are making, the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of defending freedom. And those families and those sacrifices should be honored above all else. I regret my comments as they were delivered. I certainly did not mean to diminish the sobering fact of these families' sacrifices in any way.

If nothing else, I hope this brings greater attention to the suffering these families endure when the unthinkable happens. I will certainly work to do a better job of calming my own nerves while being a newcomer on the media circuit. And thanks to everyones' kind words of support throughout the day.

So much of the Convention had been planned for months and dreamed of for years, but nothing prepares you for the actual experience. Add to that the craziness of the week, and it made for an experience of a lifetime. The last night was very special to me because it featured both of my parents and allowed our entire family to share in the moment. People don't always see or understand the challenges that a political family encounters; there are some difficult times along the way. But on Thursday night, my Mom and Dad's hard work was recognized and celebrated in a way I've never seen before. I am so happy for them and I am so eager to watch the next 60 days unfold. I'm confident that my Dad will be an incredible President. Thanks to everyone who has helped us get this far. Your support is always a cherished part of my life. It was also one of the first times in a while where we had the entire family in one room at the same time, due to so many different competing schedules and commitments. It was like a mini-family reunion but with the bright lights and shutters of the cameras clicking nonstop. Before we knew it, the shoot was over and it was time to head over to the Xcel Energy Center and watch Governor Palin deliver her amazing speech. John Rich closed the night's session with a rocking performance of his song, "Raisin' McCain."

For those of you who have followed our journey since we started the blog a year ago, you know how crazy campaign life can be. The manic pace, last second changes and unpredictable moments have all set the stage for what has been an unbelievable ride. I am privileged to be able to be a part of this experience and I hope sharing it with you provides a more intimate and authentic look at Dad's campaign.

Last night was overwhelming for me in a way in which I've never before experienced. The tears I shed were due to an abounding love I have for my father, who, above all else, wants to serve a nation and her people. His love and faith in his country and fellow citizens saved him in his darkest hour.

Standing on that stage, I saw past the balloons, confetti and cheers. I was left with a singular image. One of a man who will take his improbable journey and draw from it at every turn to change our country and our world for the better. Dad, I have never been more proud to be your daughter. I love you.

Song of the Day: "Barracuda" by Heart

Day Two

Things slowly got back to normal on Tuesday. While the storm resulted in serious damage along parts of the coast, and those affected remain in our thoughts and prayers, we were relieved that the storm wasn't as catastrophic as initially forecasted. Tuesday also happened to be the debut of my book, "My Dad, John McCain." The day began with a book signing at the CivicFest celebration in Minneapolis. I got to see some old friends and was so happy to meet all the great people and families who turned out to get their copies signed. It was an exhilarating experience and I can't thank everyone enough for their support. We then went to a service event organized by www.One.org. It's a charity devoted to eradicating global poverty. We then went to a local bookstore for another book signing. The day was a blur by the end, but I will never forget the amazing people I met and the wonderful support of my family and friends, both new and old.

Monday was one of the most unusual days I have experienced on the campaign trail to date. The looming hurricane in the Gulf Coast turned months of planning for the GOP Convention upside down and last minute changes were being made due to the storm. We were all very concerned for the entire region. I love New Orleans and I can't even imagine how difficult it must have been for those residents to once again be displaced by the evacuations. What made this day bearable for me was having my entire family together - something that rarely happens with everyone's busy lives. I was so thrilled to have my sister, brothers and extended family in one place! Be sure to look for Nana in the pics. Her strength and confidence is a gift to our entire family.

I have been on political stages and in campaigns since before I could walk or talk. If there is one thing I have learned, it is that it is difficult to establish your identity and independence as the son or daughter of a politician. When I was 14 years old, a reporter questioned my father about me having a hypothetical abortion, had I been pregnant at 14. This reporter's question single-handedly changed my life. This story comes up in almost every profile written about me and in almost every interview. It's a rough go being the son or daughter of a politician. I have not known Bristol Palin very long, but there is a certain kinship I feel to her as I do other political daughters such as Chelsea Clinton, Jenna and Barbara Bush and Mary Cheney. You can't fully understand it unless you have lived it. So I just wanted to let it be known that I support Bristol and the entire Palin family.

From there we flew to Arkansas where Dad held a press availability and attended a finance event. After spending a few hours on the plane, we were tired from the long day but played a practical joke on a senior member of the campaign staff. Finally, we landed in Las Vegas - my favorite place to be an insomniac! Dad addressed the 87th Annual Convention of Disabled American Veterans and attended a series of meetings. Then he and I were able to have dinner together on Saturday night. Next up, Pennsylvania and Michigan...

A few months ago, we attended one of Dad's Town Halls at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. There we met country music star John Rich, half of the great Nashville duo, Big & Rich. John fired up the crowd by performing some of his hit songs before Dad spoke and he has been enormously supportive of his campaign ever since. In fact, John has written, produced and recorded an original song called "Raisin' McCain." It's about Dad's life that will hopefully inspire listeners and excite a new audience about the campaign. It's a great track, so be sure to click here and download it today!

We started the morning at a Bob Evans Restaurant and then headed to a very lively town hall at the Veteran's Memorial Civic and Convention Center in Lima. Tomorrow, we head to the annual Iowa State Fair in Des Moines - where we will hopefully see the largest pig in the United States, among other interesting attractions. Then it's back on the plane, and we'll end our day in Las Vegas!

Song of the Day: "I Will Possess Your Heart" by Death Cab For Cutie

The last couple of weeks has given me more time to reflect on the world, what's at stake in this election, and how proud I am of my family. Of course, I'm proud of my parents. I'm also very proud of my brothers, who are serving our country in the Armed Forces, and my sister, who is entering her senior year of high school and has so much to look forward to as she gets ready to begin a new chapter of her life.

With that in mind, here's the latest video from Shannon that chronicles our trip to Southeast Asia with Mom and highlights her inspiring devotion to charities that seek to ease the pain of those suffering across the globe. I am truly blessed. And, I want the world to know how much we appreciate our fans' support. See you out on the trail!

I have had some health issues that have kept me from getting back out on the road as soon as I would have liked (thanks to a case of bronchitis that I have had trouble shaking). However, rest assured, Shannon, Heather and I will be back in action on Monday, August 4th. In the meantime, it is only 99 days until the election! It has already been a year that I've been out on the trail and I can't wait for the next 99 days. There are some truly incredible things soon to come that I'm anxious to blog about and share with everyone. To my loyal readers, just a few more days and we'll be back. Thank you for being patient, supportive and for constantly checking in with the site!

King's "The Thrill Is Gone" is one of my top five favorite songs of all time. We'll be back on the road soon! Click here for the playlist.
